Let's teach you how to sew the burrito method!
While it may look like magic in the beginning, you will quickly sew beautifully finished garments once you understand the method!
What is the burrito method?
It is a technique used to finish a bodice with lining or facing, so you get a clean end result. You will neatly enclose all your seam allowances in the lining, without any raw edges on your sleeveless bodice. Very satisfying AND very easy, once you have figured it out!

Step by Step Picture Tutorial
1. Sew Shoulder Seam on Bodice
Place bodice RS together and match up shoulder seams. Sew shoulder seams and press seams open.
Repeat for facing bodice.
2. Sew Neckline Seam
Place bodice and facing bodice RS together and match up shoulder seams and bust darts.
Pin neckline together and then sew neckline seam all around.
3. Sew Neckline Seam
Clip SA all around the neckline. Trim SA in layers to grade the SA to eliminate bulk.
4. Finish Neckline
Turn bodice RS out and iron the neckline.
Understitch the facing bodice by stitching facing and SA together only. Understitching will prevent the facing from rolling to the outside by anchoring it to the inside of the garment. The seam is not visible from the outside of the garment.
Stitch with 2 - 3 mm (1/16 inch) from the edge.5. Burrito Method: Sew first outer edge seam
It’s advised to place your bodice on a flat surface for the burrito method. RS facing you.
Grab the lower side edge of your bodice, both main and facing fabric together, and start to roll tightly upwards to the upper side edge. Try to roll it small and tight enough.
Flip the main fabric around the fabric roll and onto the lining fabric. The side edges are rolled in a tube around the encased fabric roll in the middle - like a burrito.
Bring RS edges together and SA onto each other, pin them together. Keep the inner fabric roll out of the way.
Sew the outer edge seam.
Turn piece RS out and press the sewn outer edge.
6. Burrito Method: Sew second outer edge seam
Repeat the Burrito Method steps for the second outer edge.
Turn the bodice RS out and press outer edges firmly.
6. Finished!
Hurray! You did it!
Enjoy your beautifully sewn garment using the Burrito Method.
As you can see, both the outside and the inside/facing is beautifully lined with no raw edges left.
